All Forecast Regions
The NWS Experimental Local Climate Analysis Tool (LCAT) responds to the NWS operational offices’ need to access, manipulate, and interpret local climate data and characterize regional and local climate impacts. This need is common for other climate services providers such as state climatologists, technical personnel in other federal and state government agencies as well as non-governmental organizations. LCAT provides the analytical capability to access the most trusted sources of data and scientifically-sound methodologies for climate analysis recommended by NOAA’s subject matter experts for local and regional applications. The examples of methodologies include trend, composite techniques, and analyses of frequency and time-series. LCAT helps users deliver timely responses to climate-related questions. LCAT is quick and efficient with most responses taking on the order of ten seconds, which includes providing statistics, graphics, interpretation statements, metadata, and a summary of the user original query to LCAT.
