Extreme Wind Warning in IBW Format (Proposed Implementation)
Data Mining Tool
Outreach / Education
As part of the ongoing National Weather Service (NWS) Hazard Simplification effort, the NWS is soliciting comments on proposed changes to the Extreme Wind Warning text product to align with the Impact-Based Warning (IBW) format currently used in other NWS warning products such as tornado and flash flood warnings. This consistent bulleted format will provide easy to read information describing the hazard (extreme hurricane winds of 115 MPH or greater), the source of the information (e.g., radar, surface observation, etc.), and a brief description of the impact of the hazard. The IBW format also includes machine-readable tags to characterize the extreme wind damage threat, source information, and causative event.
